Know Our India- Teachers Day 2013

Teachers Day: 5th September is celebrated as the teacher's day in India. The teacher's day is celebrated to pay tribute to the teachers who are known to be the builders of society. The festival is marked by the birthday of a great teacher Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, who knew the importance of education in a person's life. Apart from being a great teacher, he was also a a great diplomat, a scholar, Philosopher and President of India.

Some of the teachers and students had approached Dr. Radhakrishnan to celebrate his birthday on 5th of September. Dr. Radhakrishnan instead suggested them to celebrate the day as the teacher's day.

Dr. Radhakrishnan immensely loved and respected the profession of teaching. Dr. Radhakrishnan asked the society at large to respect the profession of teaching. The lessons learned from the teachers remains lifelong with the students and it helps them to become better individuals who could serve the nation and the society. The 5th September is a small tribute to teachers to honor their contribution to the society.

The way to celebrate: On teacher's day students dress up as their teacher in various school and take up the task which is usually performed by their teachers. They represent their favorite teachers and they take various lectures that are assigned to the teachers they play their role as. Some of the teachers are honored in schools for their excellence in teaching. On the day the students come to know that what it means to be a teacher. They come to realize the value of the teachers.

It is also a day to remember the contributions of Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan who was a great teacher and a philosopher on various subjects. His contributions and his works are as a teacher, philosopher and a president.

The importance of Teacher's day: There is a huge importance attached to teacher's day. Itís a special day in schools. Various schools celebrate it in their own way. Various functions, quiz contests etc. are organized to mark the day. Itís also a day to simply remember and acknowledge the role of the teachers. The day is marked as a respect to the profession of teaching.
